My Design Challenges

My Design #1: Learning about Dinosaurs (Click here)
This personal design challenge I made to help students work together and to improve their coding skills. The classroom would be divided up into group and these groups would find out information on their group's dinosaur. Students would then code their own Scratch program that would share what they have learned about the dinosaur they learned. This includes learning how to phonetically pronounce the name of the dinosaur. This challenge includes a lesson plan, pre-assessment quiz, post-assessment evaluation, dinosaur handouts, and a sample Scratch program to be played to the class.
My Design Challenge #2: Instructional Video (Click here)
For this video assignment, I explained how to make a simple Scratch program that a young child could follow along and copy. The program is to help land a cat that is falling to land on a pad. What makes the game interesting is that the cat does not start at the same spot every time, rather it appears in random places each time the game is started. What I learned about this game is that this game is a foundational skill for coding that involves the landing of a a falling object, such as a lunar lander, and learn to control it so that it lands safely on a pad. My point at the end of this video, is that learning to code can lead to a career involved in the sciences, whether that is in space or here on Planet Earth.
