Class Design Challenges
Sfide di progettazione della classe.
Challenge #1: Design Thinking Project (Click here)
This project involved discussing with a fellow student what kind of purse or wallet that they would want to have prototyped based on what they need. Below is a sketch of the purse that I designed and within the project are photos of the prototype purse.
Challenge #2: Food Insecurity in San Diego (Click here)
This design challenge highlighted food insecurity in San Diego and what my solution would be. For me, the solution is for each school to have gardens that students can learn how to grow food, and take food home with them as well.
Challenge #3: Ocean Pollution in San Diego (Click here)
This Pixton project focused on the problem of ocean pollution in San Diego. My recommended solution was to test genetically-engineered kelp from a university in Australia and grow that kelp off of San Diego.
Challenge #4: Reforesting California (Click here)
For this Tinkercad project, my idea for reforestation was to build a combination starter tree pot that had a screw like bottom that would allow a tree that has been started to be screwed into the ground, even at angles. A pot like this would give the tree additional strength to survive heavy winds and some downpours.
Challenge #5: Pedestrian Awareness (Click here)
This Tinkercad project on Health and Well-being made me focus on reducing automobile and pedestrian accidents. By having vehicles installed with cameras installed in the four corners of the roof, an AI system could scan for pedestrians and warn the drivers when the pedestrian is possibly in harms way. This system could also provide additional benefits as well, such as with hit-and-run accidents, vandalism, and other situations.
Challenge #6: Scratch for Test Preparation (Click here)
My introduction to Scratch was to code a brief presentation on the early development of Alta California, when the Spanish began to colonize the area in the 1760s. I did this as I was preparing for a test in one of History class and decided that interdisciplinary application of Scratch would help me prepare for the test.
Design Challenge #7: Reducing Trash (Click here)
For this Scratch project, my program was intended to address pollution in San Diego. Mine was to target the amount of waste each residence creates and challenges people to come up with ways to reduce their trash footprint and thereby clean up San Diego and the environment.
Design Challenge #8: Storytelling by Podcast (Click here)
In my first podcast, I discuss how I began to enjoy History and came back to it many years, and difficulties on my road to obtaining a B.A. in History and future career as a teacher.
