My Role as an Educator and the ISTE Standards

Il mio ruolo di educatore e gli standard ISTE

My Role as an Educator and the ISTE Standards.

In 2006, Disney released the animated movie Cars, and the song Life is a Highway, by Rascal Flatts (link), to me, exemplifies both my personal life and my education. Since having made the decision to become an educator in the Fall of 2020, I have begun to purposefully travel the highway for such. Since this decision, I have cultivated mentors, become a tutor for both youth and college students, and accumulated different strategies for teaching my future students. As part of my education, I was taught about the ISTE Standards (link) and to identify the standards that I most connect with.

For me, the two standards that I connect with on a personal level are 2.1.C Learner and 2.5.B Designer. Through the many courses I have taken since returning to college, I have begun accumulating both a list of resources and subscribing to educational and professional groups, to continue both staying abreast of both academic and professional knowledge in the fields of Social Sciences. In the Spring of 2023, I took an Education class at CSU San Marcos that exposed me technological tools, such as Pixton, Scratch, Tinkercad, and ScreenPal, that I learned to use to improve my own deeper learning for a history course I was taking. Due to this direct, personal experience, I plan to have my future students make use of these programs to “maximize active, deep learning,” and to expose students to the potential careers these programs may lead them to in the future.
